It seems Three and Hutchinson team has failed to secure the new iPhone for Australia. Maybe because Australia population is relatively small or perhaps due to something else. Optus and Vodaphone are the lucky one in downunder to get some quota of the new iPhone for their customer.
Although I am still not a Mac user, I’d love to have iPhone as my mobile. Beside my Motorola A1000 has approached its retirement age (more than 2 years already). So, yeah I am in the market for new phone and seems the price-reduced-newly-3G iPhone is the perfect candidate.
As you can guess, unfortunately, I am with Three. Although we can carry our number among provider (thanks to government’s number portability scheme), I kinda like Three services here: cheap rate, generous cap and even their cap quota can be used for overseas call – not all provider allow that. Also, although my binding contract with Three is over already – so I can move freely – but my wife and my backup broadband are also with Three…. So, I would like to stay with Three but I want iPhone as well !
Just launch yesterday, this movement may make my wish come true, Three organizes online petition for everybody that want to get iPhone with Three to sign. Three wants to show Apple that they have enough number to be given decent quota. Looks like a bit desperate. But it might work.
In my opinion, as the pioneer of 3G network in Australia, Three should be given the honor to have exclusive deal for iPhone. Obviously they don’t. Well, at the end it’s just business , right ?
So.. If you want iPhone with Three, go to the petition website and lodge your voice. I did !
See you around !

In Australia, every Monday in the second week of June, we enjoy a public holiday dubbed as “Queen Birthday Holiday”. This year’s holiday was on Monday, 9 June 2008.
(As member of Commonwealth nations, Australia’s head of state is in fact Queen of England, hence the public holiday. The funny things is the actual birthday of the Queen is on 21st April. So, some people marked the day as the start of snow season here in the southern hemisphere.)
The Tumble
As we know, on Friday 6 June 2008, Dow Jones Industrial Index fall dramatically by almost 400 point due to a surge in unemployment figure from 5.0% to 5.5% (the expectation was 5.1%), crude oil shoot $16 up in the trading session before closing $11 up at $138.5 a barrel.
And from an event like that, usually the market will bounce back the next day as buyer who sitting on the fence will jump in and also because short sellers need to cover the position and buy back the stock.
And we also know that the rest of the world, especially Australia and Asia, will usually follow any significant lead from US market, i.e: Dow Jones the next day.
Since the next trading day is public holiday in Australia, how does the market react accumulatively ? Read the rest of this entry »
